SOCCER PLAYERS' 5 MOST POPULAR HOLIDAY DESTINATIONS

All work and no play for our favorite soccer players would make life for Soccer Report extremely dull. Thankfully, dull is one thing a modern player’s life certainly is not.
When you kick a ball around for a living surely there can’t be that much stress involved, right?  Think again. With long hours on the training ground, extra work in the gym, and all those long and boring tactical discussions and team meetings, a player’s got to find some time to play – away from the field. They’re under a constant microscope, and their every move is scrutinized, photographed, and scrutinized again – just ask Jack Wilshere!

Sometimes it can all get a bit too much, and the summer break provides the perfect opportunity to relax. From extravagant nightclubs to secluded romantic havens, SR takes a look at the five most popular holiday destinations for our overworked, overstressed players.
5. Florida – USA
Florida is well known for its golden beaches and wild Miami parties. South Beach has seen the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Wayne Rooney, who couldn’t resist the temptation to party till they dropped. But that’s not all; Florida boasts other family-friendly attractions like Universal Studios and Disney World, that cater to those stars who may seek a bit of quiet time with their families during pre-season.

4. Ibiza – Spain
Thousands and thousands of regular Brits flock to Ibiza during the party season, and famous players are more and more joining the trend of vacationing on this beautiful Mediterranean island. Over the last two years Steven Gerrard, Wayne Rooney, Peter Crouch and John Heitinga have holidayed there, while the Spanish contingent of Pepe Reina, David Villa, Carles Puyol and Guti visit frequently. Dutch sensation Wesley Sneijder even married his native-born love Yolanthe there. Ibiza Travel reveals the island’s allure, “Famous people, such as footballers, can live without the threat of the paparazzi taking photographs of them.” Hmmm…SR is pretty sure we’ve seen a few thousand photos of players and their WAGs cavorting around Ibiza’s beaches.

3. Barbados
Tranquil and intimate, this is one of our favorite destinations too – a tropical paradise that has seen a host of English players visit like Michael Carrick, Kyle Walker and Ashley Cole. Barbados is ideal for family vacations and honeymoons alike, with sunrises and sunsets painting clear skies orange – best enjoyed with some famous Barbados rum. The island’s isolation offers soccer players a second or two away from the limelight and the bustle of everyday life.

2. Maldives
This double chain of 26 islands in the Indian Ocean have irresistible crystal clear waters famous for rare underwater beauty. As its tourism industry did not begin in earnest until 1972, the number of resorts springing up each year is skyrocketing. Some interesting names have given their stamp of approval on the islands – Thierry Henry, Mario Gomez and Andrea Pirlo have all spent holidays at the famous Four Seasons Resort at Kuda Huraa. But given the projected inundation of the country in the next hundred years or so due to rising sea levels, better vacation there while you still can!

1. Las Vegas- USA
No vacation list would be complete without Sin City! Las Vegas is the hottest holiday destination for soccer’s elite. Boasting exquisite hotels, lavish clubs, and some of the best nightlife options in the world, players can wine and dine while enjoying an abundance of entertainment. Vegas caters to the “boys will be boys” mentality, offering extreme sports, sumptuous food and drink, fast cars and beautiful women galore to satisfy the senses. It comes as no surprise that Las Vegas is a happy hunting ground for stars like Jack Wilshere, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Frank Lampard, and will remain one of the biggest attractions for a long time to come.
